System HIRO

Basic principle of hydro-aerosol system HIRO:
Hydro - aerosol extinguishing system HIRO represents a unique solution. It is suitable for extinguishing all range of fires and when demineralized water is used as the filling it can be used for extinguishing the fires caused by electric flow. It is specially suitable for extinguishing oil products, road tunnels, hotels and other closed areas in which people are present. Using special construction it is possible to extinguish gas fountains. The above mentioned system is multiply more effective than extinguishing with water flow and in many parametres it is simply incomparable with water extinguishing.
High extinguishing efficiency emerges from the fact, that the water which is in the form of microdrops, is delivered by air, alternatively by other gas. In this way, the microdrops of water solution have enormous total surface. Their number in one litre reaches 1 billion at minimum. It enables water to evapourate immediately and to take away very quickly a large amount of heat from the space. Besides, water steam changes relative oxygen ratio in the atmosphere of the fire.
Continual production of great amount of water aerosol is typical for the system HIRO. After adding suitable detergent, which can be biologically degraded, the water aerosol systems are available for extinguishing petrol, oil products and gas. Clean water was used in the demostration. Special advantage of the system HIRO is a big range of jet of aerosol.


Basic principle of hydro-aerosol system HIRO:

Extinguishing effect is achieved by:
COOLING + SUBSTITUTION OF THE OXYGEN WITH THE STEAM + REDUCTION OF INFRARED RADIATION

The water droplets are so small that they are pulled into the burning area by the turbulent air flow. Thus water aerosol "draws" itself into the focus of fire. With 15 litres of water we are able to extinguish a 15 m2 large pre-burnt furnished room, eventually a burning cabin of a car. Both the extinguishing flow softness and the high effectiveness predetermine the system to extinguish the fires in hospitals, museums, appartments and wherever classical continual flow of water may destroy the area.


Advantages of HIRO System:

  • It can use most of the extinguishing media.
  • System is exceptionally effective and ecological when water media are used.
  • It has a low working pressure of water and air (8 bar) and thus there are no problems with media transport for a long distance.
  • Limited range of jet is more than 100 metres when 3" nozzle is used.
  • System is immediately usable.
  • System has extremely high reliability as the moving parts are not present and tens of parallely working nozzles are used.
  • Extinguishing flow is soft, gentle and environmentaly friendly. It does not spread burning liquid fuels into the surrounding space.
  • Into the extinguished space, the pressured air is simultaneously delivered with water. It has favourable effect for breathing the surrounding atmosphere. Unevaporated aerosol partly eliminates smut and gas.
  • As a modular system with the high extinguishing power it is suitable for the stationary extinguishing systems which are designed in accordance with customers and their requirements.
  • Working and investment costs are low.

Demonstration of extinguishing:
The pictures below show the demonstration of extinguishing with aerosol output 0,7 l water/sec. Bonfire with dimensions 90 x 90 cm, made of wood prism with dimensions 35 x 35 x 900 mm with pitch 150 mm, was extinguished. The time of burn-overring was 3 minutes with 6 litres of gasoline. In this case the range of jet of nozzle is 17 metres.

Nozzles

The product line - Nozzles represents an offer of seperate nozzles, which generat hydro aerosol on the base of system HIRO. Nozzles are offered to expand systems HIRO, or as spare parts or separate products.

Construction accomplishment:
Nozzles are made of aluminium alloy, brass, and stainless steel. The exterior surface is burnished or chemically processed. The picture shows the nozzle with flow rate 0.8 l/sec:

Construction accomplishment:
Trolleys are made in two different construction accomplishments. The trolley in picture 1. has letter "A" at the end of the type name. The trolley in picture 2. has letter "B" at the end of the type name. Trolleys type "B" are designed especially into the first intervention vehicles. Trolleys type "A" have wider application because of their easier maneuvering. Bigger dimensions are their disadvantage. Picture 2 b shows a trolley with the pull out handle. The system is produced as a trolley, predominantly from stainless materials. Warranty time for the nozzle is 5 years, for the other components it is 1 year. Expected life time is 15 years.

Construction accomplishment:
The system is produced as a trolley, mostly from stainless materials. Warranty time for the nozzle is 5 years, for the other components it is 1 year. Expected life time is 15 years. Built-in constructions are made according to the orders of customers. The system is built-in and it is located in the stainless steel construction with two winches for hoses, two nozzles (0,5 l/sec and 0,8 l/sec), with tanks for water with volume 200 l and with tanks for compressed air. If it is neccesary, it is possible to lenghten the hoses.

  • This product represents a built-in construction in the vehicle Mercedes SPRINTER, located in the pull up steel construction together with hydraulic aggregate.

Stationary Sys.

HIRO 50X ⁄ T

Product line 50X/T represents stationary water aerosol systems, which are designed to extinguish road tunnels. It is a complex system of extinguishing with water aerosol. It is specially effective and ecologic. Extinguishing output on 10 metres of tunnel is 15 MW.

Typical symptoms of fire in tunnel:

  • 1.The fire spreads enormously quickly
    • Released heat is reflected from the walls of the tunnel and it returns to the focus of fire. In this way the temperature is soared and the objects which, have not been in the focus of the fire, start burning
    • In the first minute since the rise of the fire, the temperature soars in the area of the focus of fire in such level, that all the ordinary materials which are in the vehicles reach the temperature of self-inflammation. In three minutes the temperature reaches 1300 degrees C. Radiation heat spreads with velocity of light. It means the radiation heat is stopped with the first barrier. After the barrier has deflagrated, the radiation wave gradually spreads further.
    • There is such enormous rise of temperature that the materials in fact explode. Such flame spreads with velocity of sound.
  • 2.The area is filled quickly with the products of burning
    • Visibility is decreased to zero, it is dark in the tunnel.
    • People completely lose their orientation. The smut and smoke are so thick that the burning objects cannot be seen for a longer distance than a few metres.
    • The speed of advance of non transparent smoke reaches the speed of a running man. In a moment people can lose their orientation and they cannot decide in which direction they should run.
  • 3.People panic
    • In the effort to save their property, but they are also curious, people lose the first seconds and instead of escaping from the area of the fire they stay there. After they have been reached by the infrared wave, it can be late.
    • As soon as there is a state of panic, people block each other.

Principle of extinguishing in the tunnel:

  • 1.Extinguishing must be efficient and harmless for people
    • Only water aerosol fulfils this condition.
    • After adding nontoxic and biologically degradable detergent e.g. shampoo, water aerosol efficiently extinguishes oil products as well.
    • Both the air from the surrounding atmosphere and the water microdrops are drawn into the focus of fire by the fire itself. That causes improvement of atmosphere breathing.
  • 2.Extinguishing intervention must be as rapid and vigorous as possible
    • After detection of dangerous temperature under the ceiling of a tunnel, traffic has to be stopped in 10 seconds. As soon as the vehicles come to standstill, the extinguishing has to start.
    • One automatic HIRO aerosol ejector can in a second jet 1-2 litres of water in the form of droplets with the dimension of 100 micon. We are able to take away the heat power which equals 2.4-5 MW.
  • 3.First intervention has to be automatic
    • With regard to the length of road tunnels, only automatic stationary system can ensure fulfilment of the rapid intervention condition.
    • Professionals should finish extinguishing. They should arrive to the fire focus as soon as possible. (Motorcycles are recommended) The fire would be finished with the manual ejector which is built in the form of hydrant, or in the form of trolley system (placed in the places for hydrants), eventually with a motorcycle with integrated HIRO system.
